JOB POSTING - Executive Director (part-time)
ORGANIZATION
The Greater Bridgeport & South Loop Chamber of Commerce (“GBSLCC”) is a member and neighborhood-led organization focused on promoting the growth, establishment and cooperation of small businesses in the Greater Bridgeport & South Loop community. The Chamber is comprised of entrepreneurs, small business owners, professionals, and other neighbors concerned about small businesses, the heart of one of the most vibrant and diverse communities adjacent to downtown Chicago.
JOB SUMMARY
The GBSLCC is seeking an experienced professional to serve as a part-time Executive Director. The Executive Director oversees all Chamber operations, including member recruitment and retention, visitor services, marketing and promotion, government affairs, media engagement, financial management, community relations, and partnership development. This multifaceted role requires both leadership skills and hands-on operational management. Working closely with the Board of Directors, the Executive Director will implement and maintain systems to effectively support and promote local businesses while fostering economic growth in our community.
SUPERVISION RECEIVED AND EXECUTION
The Executive Director reports to the President of the GBSLCC.
EXAMPLES OF WORK
Study, learn, retain, and apply subject matter knowledge related to the organization. Become adept at the issues, environment, vocabulary, and personas of membership.
Develop and retain a strong membership by visiting members, listening to their needs, sharing Chamber programs and statistics, developing positive member benefits, and being a visible contributor to the local community. Identify and contact non-members to encourage them to join.
Lead the planning and execution of Chamber networking and promotional and fundraising events throughout the year. Attend business and cultural events on behalf of the Chamber; promoting the Chamber's mission and membership.
Develop and implement effective systems and processes for membership management, financial management, and event planning.
Serve as the Chamber's chief media contact, representing the Chamber in television, radio, social media, and print interviews.
Manage the Chamber's online presence including the website and other social media.
Financial management, including annual budget creation and implementation and collaboration with partner accounting agencies.
Identify facilitators that can provide training and experience for enhanced marketing and branding, businesses attraction and retention, and securing funding resources.
Collaborate with local elected officials and the City of Chicago’s Department of Business Affairs and Consumer Protection (“BACP”), advocating on behalf of the Chamber and its members.
Ensure the Chamber's compliance with all legal and regulatory requirements related to its operations, including all necessary reporting, data entries, vouchering and event attendance meets BACP requirements.
Advise the Board of Directors on governance-related leading practices related to Bylaws, volunteer recruitment, organizational structure, policies, norms, and behaviors.
Provide regular progress reports to the Board of Directors and make recommendations for continuous improvement and growth. As a long-term initiative, collaborate with the Board to develop and execute strategic plans for Chamber’s future.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Bachelor's degree preferred and a minimum of three (3) years of experience in organizational leadership, strategic planning, or business consulting, preferably at a chamber of commerce or other similar civic, community or non-profit organization, or an equivalent combination of training and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job.
A valid Illinois driver's license and a genuine interest in issues and growth opportunities in the Bridgeport & South Loop area.
Bilingual in Spanish/English preferred.
Prior chamber experience highly desired.
Must pass the pre-employment background check.

Demonstrated budgeting and financial management skills.
Critical thinking and fearless examination of problems and opportunities.
Ability to manage multiple projects and attend to details while also evaluating project outcomes.
Experience working with a diverse group of constituencies and developing consensus among them.
Exceptional public relations skills, including active listening, civility, media relations, public speaking, and written communication.
Knowledge of tourism trends and emerging associated technologies.
Demonstrated knowledge of sales and marketing strategies.
Ability to work evenings, early mornings, holidays, and weekends as needed.
Goal oriented and entrepreneurial with strong time management and organizational skills.
Experience with the City of Chicago’s Procurement Services iSupplier Portal is preferred.
WORK ARRANGEMENTS
Part-time; approximately 25 hours per week and the potential to become a full-time position.
Hybrid arrangement out of our Bridgeport area, Chicago, Illinois office.
Willing to travel in the Chicagoland area and attend Chamber networking and promotion events during and after business hours.
Work is primarily performed indoors in an office setting but will also include working outdoors occasionally in any weather condition.
Incumbents may have to work long or flexible hours occasionally due to pressing deadlines or events.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
Employees exert up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, perform tasks that may require the incumbent to stoop; kneel; reach; lift; use manual dexterity; and perform repetitive motions; express or exchange ideas by means of the spoken word; receive detailed information through oral communication; visual acuity necessary to perform data entry, transcribing; viewing a computer terminal; and reading documents.
